From Childhood Friends to Husband & Wife

TRAVIS & ALISSA WEDDING FILM

There’s this quiet moment right before a ceremony starts where the room settles, people find their seats, and you can almost feel the story that’s about to begin. That’s what it felt like for Alissa and Travis’ wedding day—a sacred pause before two lives officially became one team.

From the very beginning, this wasn’t just “a wedding.” It was worship. It was covenant. It was two people who love Jesus, standing before their families and friends and promising to build their life with Him at the center.

Their pastor welcomed everyone into what he called a profound mystery—marriage—and then led a prayer on gratitude for how God brought these two together, for His good plan over their lives, and for the privilege of all of us getting to witness this step.

“The Makings of a Great Team”

Their message was titled “The Makings of a Great Team,” and honestly, I don’t think you could find a more fitting theme for these two. Both athletes. Both coaches. Both wired for discipline, grit, and commitment.

He talked about what happens when a new team forms:

  • you leave your old teams (your families under mom and dad),

  • you step onto new ground,

  • and you create something brand new together.

From there, he walked through five things that make a team great—

1. High character players.

He described them the way the best coaches talk about captains. Not just talented, but kind. Not just driven, but deeply good.

For Alissa, he remembered her as a strong, fast runner inspiring little girls at Wednesday Night at the Races, sharing her testimony at Fields of Faith, and stepping into leadership as the only female on a football staff—consistently showing character, courage, and faith.

For Travis, he told stories from Piedmont days—this quiet, sweet kid who always wanted to be a cop, not for the action, but because he wanted to help people. The little boy who refused to drive his toy car until it had a siren taped to the top. The adult who still leads with service, who rescues, who protects.

And then, of course, there’s Dingo—their rescue pup—who might be the most obvious, wiggly evidence of their capacity to love and care well.

2. Friendship.

They’ve known each other since elementary school—Piedmont hallways, sports, random run-ins at the Sports Garden and the gym. The kind of “Hey! How are you?” friendship that lingered for years.

That’s part of why Alissa hesitated to say yes when Travis asked her out those first couple of times. Pier B for dinner didn’t feel like “just friends,” and she wasn’t sure she wanted to risk what they already had.

Thankfully, she said yes. And that friendship—the years of just genuinely liking each other as people—has become one of the strongest foundations of their marriage.

3. Common goals.

Both goal-oriented. Both planners. Both people who set their minds on something and quietly, steadily work toward it.

You can see it in how Alyssa handled the wedding—organized, intentional, every detail thought through. You can see it in Travis, who as a kid was literally writing out monthly goals and chasing them down.

They share values:

  • they care about career and work, but know it isn’t everything,

  • they dream about a family,

  • they want a home built on faith, service, and love.

4. A strong support team.

From families to friends, coworkers to card buddies, it was obvious in the room that these two are surrounded. The pastor called out exactly that: how essential trainers, coaches, managers, and teammates are to a great team—and how their “support staff” is rock solid.

And honestly, you could feel it. The kind of love that doesn’t just show up for a wedding, but sticks around for the life that comes after.

5. A great coach.

This might have been my favorite part: the reminder that behind every great team is great coaching—and that for Alissa and Travis, that Coach is God.

Travis’ verse was Psalm 143:8:

“Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust.
Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.”

And Alyssa’s from Hebrews 12:1–2,

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Their pastor painted this picture of a marriage where, day by day, they lift their souls to God, trust Him for direction, and follow Jesus not just as an example, but as Savior and Lord. A team coached by grace.

Apple Pies, Packed Dance Floors & Fishing Clinics

If the ceremony gave us the heart of who they are, the speeches gave us the rest through stories.

Madison, Alissa’s maid of honor, shared how their friendship began the day Alissa basically declared, “We’re going to be friends now.” From there, she talked about the kind of person Alissa is:

  • the one who shows up with apple pie because someone jokingly asked,

  • the teammate who grabs the mic at a wedding when the DJ’s partner bails and turns the night into a party,

  • the friend who celebrates your milestones like they’re her own,

  • the calming voice when anxiety spirals,

  • the one who loves with her whole heart, every time.

She ended with a toast that felt like a blueprint for their marriage: apple pies, packed dance floors, surprise flowers, calm in the chaos, and love in abundance.

Beckman, Travis’ best man, brought the stories from the “Travis archives”—from dominating Piedmont hockey rinks and Amsoil team games, to late-night Black Bear blackjack runs, to watching Travis grow into an incredible athlete and coach.

He talked about Travis as genuine, humble, loyal, fashion-loving, big-hearted. And then he turned to Alissa—the girl who out-fished everyone at the cabin—and called her what everyone else could already see: a blessing in Travis’ life.

Their banter, their inside jokes (sasquatches, UMD Bulldogs, car parts, football schemes, and a legendary hat story) had the room laughing—but underneath it all was a simple truth: these two bring out the best in each other.

Alan, Alissa’s dad, pulled us all the way back to teething days, track meets, dance competitions, hockey goals, and the infamous baby bite on the shoulder he’ll never forget.

He talked about recognizing Travis from grade school, watching him grow, and seeing—clearly—the love and respect he has for Alissa. He welcomed Travis not just as a son-in-law, but as another son…and Dingo as another reason to laugh.

His toast ended with exactly the kind of blessing you want over a marriage: love that grows stronger every day, families that support no matter what, and a lifetime of smiling and laughing together.

Gratitude, Community, and a Dance Floor to Remember

Later in the evening, Alissa and Travis grabbed the mic to thank everyone—family, friends, coworkers, the crew that helped bring the whole day to life. You could hear how much it meant that people traveled, invested, and showed up to be in the room with them.

For me, filming this day felt less like documenting an event and more like being invited into a story that’s been unfolding for years—Piedmont hallways, football fields, track lanes, police shifts, coaching, Dingo snuggles—and is now officially beginning a new chapter as husband and wife.
