How To Prepare for a Rainy Wedding Day in Minnesota

If you live in Minnesota, then you know that a rainy wedding day is not an uncommon scenario. Duluth experiences it’s fair share of rainfall, however, a bit of a drizzle doesn’t have to “dampen” the spirits of your special day (hehe, see what I did there)! In fact, rain is often considered good luck on a wedding day, and a total vibe!

We definitely can’t control the weather, but we can prepare for it. As a professional Minnesota wedding photographer and videographer, I’ve experienced all types of weather firsthand and can give you tips on making this scenario seem less daunting.

So, let’s dive into how to prepare for a rainy wedding day in Minnesota!

Have a Backup Plan

It’s always good to have a Plan B ready to go. I recommend opting for a venue that offers both indoor and outdoor options, ensuring that your wedding day will go without a hitch, come rain or shine! And if you’re still looking for your wedding venue in Duluth, MN, here are some of my favorites!

If your chosen wedding venue has no indoor option, consider renting out a tent for your reception (see Abby+Wyatt’s backyard wedding below).

Encourage Guests to Bring Layers

Inform your guests about the possibility of rain and encourage them to bring extra layers and waterproof footwear or a change of shoes. This will keep your guests happy and comfortable and allow them to enjoy the celebration.

Invest in Umbrellas

Invest in some clear umbrellas or maybe even ones that fit your wedding decor. They will provide shelter for you and your guests and serve as a fun, chic accessory for your wedding photos!

OR you can book with me, because I bring clear umbrellas to every wedding I go to! 😉

Get Your Rainy Wedding Day Kit Ready

What is a rainy wedding day kit? I recommend keeping a stock of blankets, towels, and dry cloths handy to wipe down seats and other surfaces. It can also be helpful for guests to dry off and stay warm.

Choose the Right Footwear

I mentioned this earlier when it comes to your guests, however, it’s equally important for you! Stylish rain boots can be a fun and practical choice, and they can always be swapped for more elegant shoes once indoors.

I can already imagine jumping in the puddles with your rain boots for your rainy wedding day photos, though! 😉

Waterproof Your Hair and Makeup

Consult with your makeup artist and hairstylist to create looks that withstand moisture. Opting for updos and water-resistant makeup products can ensure that you look great, regardless of the weather.

Embrace Your Rainy Wedding Day

The last tip from me is to just embrace the rain! Rain can add a romantic and playful element to your wedding photos, capturing raw, unfiltered emotions and moments!

The rainy wedding day photos would be so fun and unique with all the cute umbrellas and rain boots! Focus on the love and joy of the day and try not to stress about the weather too much.
